b.) The object is at rest in the time intervals 0 < t < 0.6 sec, 1.4 < t < 2.0 sec and 2.6 < t < 3.0 seconds because in those time intervals the position is not changing.
c.) The velocity is negative in the time interval 0.6 < t < 1.4 seconds because the position is decreasing with time.
Rossing 1.2 The speed of a bicycle increases from 5 mph to 10 mph in the same time that a car increases its speed from 50 mph to 55 mph. Compare their accelerations.
The change in velocity for both the bicycle and the car is 5 mph. Since that velocity change is the same for both and occurs in the same time, the car and bicycle have the same acceleration (no matter how long it took for the velocity change to occur).
Rossing 1.5 A car accelerates from rest to 50 mph in 12 s. Calculate its average acceleration in m/s2. Compare this to the acceleration of an object in free fall.
