| Video (Descent1.flv - runs on RealPlayer) One of the best deCycles downhills we had: coming off of the 5 mile + 10 mile climb in the Escalante in Utah. First pass Stephen (red jersey), then Caitlin (in her multi-colored Teter cycling kit), and then look carefully for a "truck descending" sign on the right about half-way through the video. We are on a 8% grade for a long stretch, doing maybe 45 mph when the sign announces a 1-mile 10% grade that we launch into at speed. Near the end is Garrett Henry, Adam, and I, with Garrett saying "Holy ****" and the rest of us shaking as we probably hit close to 60 mph going through curves. Adam Leuken bravely taped it on the camera while catching up to us... | Video (Descent2.flv - runs on RealPlayer) Another descent, same day, flying through stands of aspen. Myself, Caitlin, Garret Henry, John Powers, Stephen. Video once again courtesy Adam Leuken (check out Curious George lashed to his handlebars). |

| In Hanksville where we were to spend 4th July - we were _supposed_ to sleep in these two buildings... |
A historical building that they had not quite yet restored... |
...and some of us were supposed to sleep in it! The town seemed to consist of 10-year-olds whizzing around on dirt bikes. Then a teenager pulls up a ATV and screeches off to find the mayor. It like something out of the Twilight Zone. |
| Instead we camped out on the back lawn of the Mormon church in Hanksville. Check out the flag on our U.S./Canada tent... |

Went ~50 miles along interstate 70 encountering _no_ gas stations, water, or food. We had to take our rest break beneath an underpass in the middle of nowhere. It looked like something out of the Road Warrior. |

Out of Moab, paralleled the Colorado River for many miles. Can just make out the Penskes on the other side. |

Just before the top of a spectacular ~7-mile climb out of Bitter Creek notched into the side of an escarpment. Kept going up and up with no obvous place to get to the top until one turned this corner through a notch blasted through the rock. |
