Physics GRE Study -- Summer 2006

Now that we are roughly a month into the summer, it is time to start thinking about GRE studies. This is a task that all of us are dreading and are avoiding day after day with every excuse in the book. To overcome such slacking, I propose that we band together as a team to study for this all too important exam. By setting aside a few hours a weekend to study together and take practice exams, we will all benefit.

I envision this group being an informal forum where we can 'force' ourselves to study and get help with problem sets we don't understand. Participation is completely voluntary, so come and go as you please. Just keep in mind that a disciplined study plan this summer will most likely boost your scores in the Fall.

Study Strategy

The professors that I have spoken to all suggest that a thorough review of a first-year physics text is the best way to study for the Physics GRE. The schedule I've put together is based on Halliday, Resnick & Walker's Fundamentals of Physics. If you do not have this book it is on reserve in the Swain Library, or you can just use the freshman text you already have.

Unless otherwise noted, all studies will take place on Saturday afternoons in the Physics Forum. Note that this is a very aggressive schedule so you should do problems during the week as well in order to get the maximum benefits from this program.
